Aims

Pupils should gain an understanding of the following key issues:

• Does watching violent material have an effect on young people’s actions?
• Do girls and boys respond differently to violence on the screen? If so, what are the reasons for this?
• Is there a difference between fictionalised violence and the portrayal of real-life violence?
• Is there a cultural difference in the toleration of violence (for example between the UK and the US)?
• Are teenagers particularly vulnerable to the effects of screen violence?
